In the 1860's what today is Mission and 16th was a country resort called The Willows, named for the trees growing along the now-buried Missiom Creek. Two period photgraphs of The Willows.

The Willows, a popular The Mission Becomes a Resort, 1850s resort "out in the country" in the Mission District, in the 1860s. It was near today's 16th and Mission, and the willows of its name are growing around the now-buried Mission Creek which drained the Dolores Lagoon.
